Privacy Policy
Memora · Last updated: June 2026
Our Commitment to Privacy
Memora is built local-first. There is no Memora account, no Memora server, and no telemetry. We do not collect, store, or transmit your recordings, transcripts, or notes to any server we control. This Privacy Policy explains how Memora processes data locally on your device.
Data Access (Not Collection)
Memora does NOT collect or store your data on external servers. The app processes everything locally on your device to provide the journaling experience:
- Audio Recordings: Audio files are saved on the device that recorded them and never leave it unless you choose iCloud sync or an explicit export
- Transcription: Speech-to-text runs on Apple’s on-device speech models using the Neural Engine — the audio and the words are never sent to us
- AI Processing: Summaries, Ask answers, and embeddings are generated by a local model you choose; the model file and the search index live on your disk
- No External Transmission: By default, nothing you say or write is sent off your device
How Data is Used
All processing happens on your device to power the app’s features:
- Transcribe recordings and generate titles, summaries, key points, action items, mood, and tags
- Build a local search index for hybrid keyword and semantic search across your entries
- Answer questions in “Ask” using a private retrieval over your own notes, with citations to the source
- Sync between your devices via your own iCloud account, end-to-end, if you enable it
Optional Cloud Models
By default the AI runs entirely on-device. Memora lets you opt into a cloud model (for example OpenAI or Anthropic) if you want to:
- Off by default: A cloud model is a toggle you turn on, never the default
- You hold the keys: If you enable a cloud model, requests go directly to that provider using your own API key under their terms
- Your choice, your scope: Only the content needed for the request you trigger is sent, and only to the provider you selected
Data Storage and Security
Your archive stays on your device:
- Local Storage: Recordings, transcripts, entries, and the search index are stored on your device
- No Backend Servers: Memora has no backend or database — we cannot access your data because we never receive it
- iCloud Sync: If enabled, sync runs through your own Apple ID, end-to-end encrypted; Memora never sees the contents
- Export and Delete: One-tap export gives you a zip of every audio file plus your entries as JSON and Markdown; one-tap delete wipes everything
Data Sharing and Collection
We have no access to your data, so we cannot share it:
- Zero Data Collection: Memora does not collect, transmit, or store your content on servers we control
- No Third-Party Sharing: Since we don’t collect your data, it’s impossible for us to share it
- No Analytics or Tracking: No analytics services, advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking
- No Account: There is no Memora login, email, or profile to tie your notes to
Your Rights and Controls
You have full control over your data:
- Microphone & Speech: You can revoke microphone and speech-recognition access at any time in iOS settings
- iCloud Sync: You can turn sync off entirely
- Cloud Models: You can disable any optional cloud model and stay fully on-device
- Data Deletion: Delete individual entries, export your archive, or remove the app to erase all locally stored data
